Sara Ptak to Perform August 22

Soprano Sara Ptak is in her second year of Masters at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music.  She will perform Thursday, August 22 at St. Patrick's Church beginning at 7 pm.

Sara has captured the attention of audiences with her vulnerability on stage, innate musicality, and her "très jolie voix de soprano" (Claude Gingras, La Presse) . On the operatic stage, she has brought a freshness and likeability to roles such as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. A versatile musician, Sara has also begun to venture into early music, singing Almirena in Handel’s Rinaldo, Juno in Montiverdi’s L’orfeo, Drusilla in L’incoronazione di Poppea, and Mystery in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen.

Miss Ptak has trained as a young artist with the Janiec Opera Company (Brevard Music Center), the Aspen Opera Theatre Center, and Music nelle Marche in Urbania, Italy. Sara spent this past summer immersed in German art song in Austria at the Franz Schubert Institut. She has a Bachelors in Music from DePaul University and is working toward her Masters in Music at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Her mentors include Sanford Sylvan, Patrick Hansen, David Gately, Harry Silverstein, Irene Gubrud, and Elsa Charlston.

Offstage, Sara enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her family.
