Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale

by Jim Lannen

It's back... the perfect combination of two American classics:  bourbon and beer!

We feel that the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is a perfect pour for these cool autumn evenings, and apparently you agree. Boasting a distinctive taste, color and aroma unlike any other beer you've experienced, we first introduced it a year ago to rave reviews.

Making its return appearance is this award-winning ale by Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company. The original Lexington Brewing Company closed its doors after producing bourbon whiskey for over 100 years, but it was resurrected in 2000 by Dr. Pearse Lyons.

With a background of studying at the Guinness and Harp breweries in Ireland, Lyons wanted to continue the brewing tradition in Lexington. His ideas brought together the beer-producing process with Kentucky's leading export bourbon, and more specifically, the bourbon barrel.

We all know Kentucky is known for its bourbon. There are distilleries all over the Kentucky landscape with hundreds of barrels storing this American classic. These charred oak casks hold a ton of flavor, and Lexington has brought these wonderful characteristics into producing beer.

Within hours of mature Kentucky bourbon leaving the barrel, Kentucky Ale is stored in the used cask.  Subtle vanilla and oak flavors are infused into the beer is it rests in the charred, bourbon-infused barrels. After 6 weeks of age in these barrels, this brew is bottled and distributed. These pleasantly smooth, yet robust flavors make it a perfect beer for the season.

E
njoy this unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of American bourbon.  ABV 8.2%
